Hydraulic press lockout procedure

A hydraulic press holds electrical, hydraulic and gravity energy. Here is where it hurts people, and the procedure for yours: the placard for the machine and the written procedure for the binder.

Where a hydraulic press hurts people

  • The ram drops when hydraulic pressure bleeds off. Block it before anyone reaches into the die area.
  • An accumulator keeps pressure after the pump stops; the gauge has to read 0 before the work starts.
  • Two-hand controls and light curtains protect the operator in production. They do not isolate anything during maintenance.

Write the procedure for your hydraulic press

List every source of energy that can move, power or hurt. The placard builds as you go, and the checks run on every change.
